The best learning experience for kids

When it comes to selecting a school or nursery for children, all parents want nothing but the best. The best, the safest and the most productive nursery school for their children is what every mother and father want.

The Kid's Island Nursery at Villa 116, Al Hamra st (18d st) in the Jumeirah 3 area of Dubai ticks all the right boxes for anyone looking for a Dubai nursery. It’s open to children between the ages of 12 months and four years. And because of the high child-adult ratio (all classes have a qualified and experienced teacher who is supported by one or two assistants, depending on the class' age group), parents can rest assured that all their children are being looked after and that each child receives individual attention at the school.

The British Curriculum (EYFS) is followed at the nursery school which is an advantage for all children, and especially for the expatriates. Kid’s Island provides a warm and nurturing environment for tiny tots to build self-awareness and enrich their social skills so that they are ready to face bigger things in life later on. They are allowed to reach their maximum capabilities within the safe and relaxing atmosphere of the school.

Kid's Island in Dubai was established over 23 years ago by Isabelle. Her philosophy is that each child is unique and deserves to be given the opportunity to experience the best possible start to education. She has over 32 years of experience in Early Years Education and applies her wealth of knowledge to the day-to-day running of the school.

Amatoury and her dedicated and committed team work tirelessly to ensure that the foundations for positive attitudes are established in a healthy, warm and nurturing learning environment as a result of years of carefully informed resourcing, through the adoption of a balanced and holistic approach.

The school interacts closely with parents too, encouraging their inputs in recognition of the fact that parents are a child’s first educators. They also get the opportunity for early drop-off or late pick-up according to their convenience. Flexibility is a hallmark of Kid’s Island with attendance options being provided for children of two, three, four or five days per week depending on the age group.

How to be more involved in your kids nursery.

Seeing your little baby grow up and start walking and talking maybe an exciting period for you as a parent. Before long the time will come for you to make a decision on a Day care in Dubai and a nursery to begin your kids’ first education.

Starting schooling at a young age is a big step for toddlers. Many parents depend greatly on a Childrens nursery in Dubai with day care facilities to leave their children in the best hands possible when they need to attend to office or other work.

Dubai Nursery caregivers greatly emphasis on the importance of a parent being part of the nursery education for their children as much as possible. Childcare nursery in Dubai may be able to look after, care and educate your children well but nothing can replace the importance of the involvement of the parents.

Parents are reminded time after time from nurseries how important it is to be involved in all stages of the children’s’ development. Nurseries ensure that a good partnership is built with the parents and that the relationships with the parents are maintained throughout the nursery years. It has been proved that parents’ involvement greatly contributes to the children’s education and wellbeing.

Many nurseries include the parents at the initial stage when they plan the activities for the school term. They encourage the parents to share their views at this planning stage. This is a wonderful relationship between the staff and parents, they will respect and value each other while learning from the others views and experiences. In return the children will receive the best possible experiences in learning.

Parents are also usually involved in many special activities organized including cooking lessons, fund raiser activities, costume preparation for concerts, sports days, etc. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer to join day camps and trips.

Nurseries also encourage parents to join in the start or at the end of one lesson in a week to see learning in action. This also helps parents to understand the concept of active learning and education through play to encourage the same at home. Some also hand out quarterly newsletters to help parents keep in track with activities carried out by the nursery.

Nurseries also carry out special classes or meetings for parents to provide parents with a background of the children, their behaviour patterns, their likes and dislikes and progress made.

The importance of active parents’ involvement cannot be stressed enough. Talk to your nursery caregivers about more ways you can get involved in your childrens education today.

Games And Songs For Circle Time At The Nursery In Dubai

Teachers at the Children’s Nursery in Dubai spend a lot of time collecting songs and name games that are winners for breaking the ice in a new class during circle time at the beginning of a new school year. This practice gives teachers a choice of learning and sharing new songs and games with their fellow teachers as well. Soon, with all the available resources, you will be the proud owner of a box full of children's songs and games appropriate for the 18mo-6yo crowd for circle time.
These songs and games are not only appropriate for a Dubai Nursery but also for parents who enjoy using all of these songs at home with their children. If you’re a parent looking for some fun little chants to keep your little trouble maker occupied in the checkout line at the grocery store or to make a car ride a little more fun, this list may be just what you’re looking for, to have fun with your child.
  • Hicklety Picklety Bumblebee - For this name game, sit cross-legged on the floor and pat your knees while you chant in a regular, somewhat emphatic voice . It’s not an easy game for a very small child, so it will be mostly the adult chanting, but the child will have your attention after some time.
  • Johnny Whoops - This is a name game that starts with an index finger pointing to each finger in succession. Start by pointing at the pinky and when you get to the index finger, “whoops” toward the thumb, say the name on the thumb, then whoops backwards again toward the The sillier and more drawn out your “whoooooooops” the more laughter and excitement you’ll generate. This is a real crowd pleaser with a lot of giggling.
  • Pig On Her Head - Have the children listen to and learn the song Pig On Her Head by Laurie Berkner. Then fill a bag with small toy animals. Let the child reach in and take one out of the mystery bag and place the animal on his head. Switch the song up by choosing another animal out of the bag or by placing it on another body part. This is a delightful song.
  • Who Is Missing? - Lay out a blanket or very large scarf on the floor. Ask the child to curl up on the floor, and make a dramatic point of draping the blanket carefully on top. It then becomes a game of peek-a-boo. It's a fun game for little children and is often used to entertain children at the Day Care in Dubai.
  • Clapping Names - This is a simple yet fun song to sing. Just go around the circle clapping each child’s name with each syllable.
  • Who Do We Appreciate? - This is by no means a quiet song, so make sure you put on your best voice  and grin, clap your hands and at the end wiggle your fingers up in the air like you’ve won the game.

How Your Child Can Benefit From Preschool in Dubai

Parents in Dubai are feeling the pressure to enrol their three and four year old children in pre-school or kindergarten.  Most three year olds throughout the world are attending pre-schools giving parents a much needed break at home while their rambunctious youngster is at play school.
For many children, preschool is their first experience in a structured environment with teachers and children of all ages and backgrounds. Preschool gives children the opportunity to learn, to share, follow instructions, and begin the foundation for learning that will occur in their early education.
Research shows that preschools  can help with preparing children in grade school and the many challenges that lie ahead. While some nurseries in the UAE  are considered better than others,  parents are paying a considerable amount of money for their child to attend the Dubai Nursery. Other parents feel that preschool is just a hyped day-care, and are not interested in enrolling their children at all in a preschool  and are unaware of the many benefits of a preschool education.
Here is a look at some of the many benefits of sending your child to preschool.
Children who attend kindergarten in Dubai are reported to have a positive experience and better prepare for the many years of school ahead. Once they are exposed to the school environment from a young age, they look forward to it.
Preschool is the building blocks of a child's education. Young children may not respond well to flash cards or drills but will learn well through play and games that teach them numbers, letters, new languages, colors, art, design and how to write their name. These fun games and interactive play can improve a child's memory giving them a jump start on learning.
Socialization and communication, are also taught at a preschool as opposed to a day care in Dubai. Most  daycares have not structured learning times and a proper curriculum or give much emphasis on  teaching  socialization and communication skills such as not to talk during story time, how to sit in a circle patiently, or leave a room without running. These are good habits that a child is expected to know when they reach kindergarten and preschool.
A highly structured environment will benefit the youngsters learn to make friends, share and play in harmony with other children of the same age. This doesn't mean there are lots of rules or that adults constantly direct children's activities. Also, the space in a classroom is organized to encourage social interaction, and minimize overcrowding.
A child's sense of competence and self-worth grows,  as they learn to take care of themselves and help other children in a preschool environment. For instance, a child is expected to wash his or her hands before snack time, keep personal belongings in their desk and put away toys before moving to another activity.
Therefore, even though preschools can be expensive and have a long waiting list, which may deter some parent from enrolling their child in a preschool, keep in mind that preschool is the first stepping stone in your child's journey of learning. So it's up to you as a well meaning parent to consider the benefits of preschool.

A checklist of Children's Behavior

Parents and teachers should always be sensitive towards a child, and make every concerted effort to develop a quality connection with their children,  explains the Dubai Nursery. Sometimes a child's behavior can take a turn for the worst or sometimes they develop good habits, here is a parent-response checklist to help  parent's with their responses and approaches to their children,
  • Preventive measures - A little prevention can save parents a ton of aggravation. Children love to explore and test their environments, and they also express uncomfortable feelings through limit-pushing behavior. So, if we don’t want children throwing things or playing roughly with a pet or a younger sibling, we should not be walking around saying 'no' to them all the time and being annoyed, it's best to minimize or remove certain objects and options.
  • Confidence - Confidence is important and crucial and tends to be absent when a parent's direction and response is not working. Confidence is firm,  decisive, and often upbeat, not angry or stern. Children sense an adults feeling, and can easily detect whether the decision the parent takes is serious or not, If parents are not confident with their decisions and feelings, the child will not feel comfortable making them cry, whine and protects and keep pushing the limits. Teacher's at the Nurseries in Dubai demonstrate this confidence, often giving them the ability to calm a difficult child. Often, parents and teachers should be calm and deal with the situation in that manner as the child is watching your every move. Don't panic or change your movements or be hurried, simply demonstrate confidence, and that you are in control.
  • Early action - Children understand a parent's word and actions, but need more from parents when their impulsive, emotionally fueled behavior gets the better of them. This might mean calmly taking the child aside when their behavior is out of control, or being totally fine with helping a preschooler attending Childcare Nursery in Dubai get dressed in the morning, even though they are perfectly capable of doing so themselves.
  • Acceptance - Both acceptance and acknowledgement are important, but the one to focus on is acceptance. Parents should try to let go of their feelings and emotions and let things be in certain instances, instead of always saying or urging the child to do the right thing or calm the child down, this is what accept means. Parents should accept disagreements with the understanding that with children and teenagers, especially, disagreements can be a daily, healthy, developmentally appropriate occurrence. This is also a way for the child to allow, acknowledges, even embraces the concept. When parent's are hastily making everything better, they are unwittingly sending an invalidating, squelching message that says we are not comfortable with your feeling and that they should stop as soon as possible.
Changing and becoming a more effective parent can take some time and is a long process, but you need to stick with it and understand that you can be an effective parent and be open to different ideas and different ways of doing things.

Classes for Kids and Parents

Parents of babies, toddlers and preschool age children are constantly on the lookout for Nurseries in Dubai that cater to the following,
  • A place where your child can explore toys, learn art, hear stories, sing songs, and make friends
  • A place where your child can enjoy fun activities and can learn new skills and you get new ideas
  • Opportunities to meet other children and families and build a sense of community
  • Advice about parenting and child development
  • Support from professionals and other parents for the challenges of life with a young child
  • You can find all these great opportunities under one roof
Research shows children learn best through hands-on exploration in places where they feel safe and free to explore. Ideally the classroom should have several stations around the room, with developmentally appropriate activities to help kids build the skills they need. Children are encouraged to move around and explore at their own pace. In parent-child programs, for babies and toddlers, parents play along with their children. In some Nursery Schools in Dubai, working parents are assigned in areas such as,
Art activities: play dough to roll, brushes to paint, crayons to color and markers for learning to write
Sensory activities: tubs of water or rice or beans to scoop, pour, stir, and run fingers through
Large motor: mats for tumbling, tunnels to crawl through, climbers and slides, balls to throw
Small motor: blocks to stack, puzzles to assemble, shape sorters to solve, beads to thread
Imaginary play: dress up zone for trying on new roles, dolls to care for, kitchen for “cooking”
Snack time: a place to practice social skills and table manners and to discover new foods and textures
The Dubai Nursery includes circle time, singing time or a music class, where the teacher leads the class in singing nursery rhymes, dancing, playing musical instruments, and reading stories. This gives the child the ability to practice sitting and listening to a teacher, and participating in a group activity, all essential skills for school readiness. Academic skill building, such as reading and writing are integrated into all types of activities.
Most children’s programs in schools, such as the Childcare Nursery in Dubai focus on one domain of learning, dance class, art class, story time, music class, or tumbling. These programs do it all. And they do it in a place where they feel safe and comfortable. Some of the same toys and activities reappear from week to week to provide reassurance and routine, and some new toys and activities rotate to encourage children to explore and try new things.
When parents are involved in the classes, they attend school for two hours a week, every other week, to attend a parent education session. In infant classes the child will be with the parent and for parents with toddlers, children are encouraged to play in one room with the children’s teachers and other parents while their parent attends parent education.
This system tends to work well, but there are not many schools that practice and feature parent education. The benefit each parent derives from following this program varies from school to school, for instance, while some schools may offer, college credit for attending, others may receive student ID cards, depending on the school, who may give access to discounts and services such as fitness center or scholarships.

Dealing With Inappropriate Behavior in Preschoolers in Dubai

There are instances when a parent is called by the child's Preschool in Dubai about their inappropriate behavior. This could be when a child is being disruptive for the day and talking out of turn, or it could be a series of bullying incidents involving peers. When this occurs, a parent might wonder how to deal with this sort of behavior and how to address this matter with the school . It's a challenge and resorting to punishment too quickly can be damaging, so here are some important information to keep in mind when addressing the situation.
  • The child may be showing that they cannot follow direction, and to a parent this looks like stubbornness.
  • Never shout at the child, instead talk to the child and find out what is going on, the reason behind their behavior.
  • Children may just want to act out or miss behave to get the attention of the parent, therefore, ask the child what is wrong instead of asking them why they act that way.
  • If the child is vying for attention all the time, it's best to let them sit it through, so parents should simply ignore their unnecessary whining until it stops.
  • Parents and educators at the Nursery in Umm Suqeim should model good behavior for a child. For instance, a child taking apart a toy or any other item is not a way to annoy you or the teacher, but they are acting on impulse to satisfy their natural curiosity. Usually this is common in children until they reach kindergarten age.
  • Time outs and other type of punishment should be done when a child is behaving in a manner that is not safe for himself or others around him. Children who are punished or given time outs may not always understand what they did wrong, they know they are being punished but they don't know how they should behave.
  • Don't stigmatize the child or label the child. Treating a child like they are bad can inevitably lead to a similar predicament, whether a parent likes it or not. Therefore, don't label the child, but instead, start by validating the child’s feelings and modelling good behavior before discipline. No matter how the child behaves, always be consistent with the approach you adopt as a parent.
  • If a time out is absolutely necessary choose a place that is not frightening for the child, after giving them several warnings. Parents should be calm at this point and not lose their cool.
Educators in the Nursery Schools in Dubai warn parents that their child's behavior cannot be changed or fixed instantly or overnight. It takes time and patience to change a child's behavior and this can be gradual. Until the child starts behaving well in the  Dubai Nursery reward the child in minor ways when they behave appropriately.
Sometime, children may have so many issues, therefore experts advise that parents should deal with one issue at a time, with physical behavior addressed first.

How to Choose the Preschool in Dubai

Many parents come into the preschool in Dubai application process with trepidation, as they anticipate gruesome interviews and tests for five-year old with a long waiting list. But the truth is far simpler, and less dramatic than what parent's anticipate. As many  Nurseries in UAE come with reasonable waiting lists and genuinely delightful people in control of the entire procedure and situation.
Here is a  list of seven things to consider when picking a preschool for your child,
  • Location - Parent will drive anywhere in Dubai just to get their children into the right school, but it’s always wise to look closer to home first. Dubai offers some really good options for nearly every schedule and commute, including some that even accessible by public transport. However the advantage of enrolling the child into a school close to home can help your child relax and enjoy the short trip to school as well as give you a stress free time.
  • Values - Every Dubai Nursery comes with its own mandate and mission, no two schools are exactly the same. Preschool websites are a great place to start your research, but list your priorities first.
  • Curriculum - What does the school teach, how does it work, what sort of education will your child receive and how does the child fare in kindergarten, and in school going years. There is some debate about the place of hard academics in a preschool setting in Dubai. As a parent, you have the right to ask questions and avoid any school that bases its teaching curriculum on a one size fits all approach.
  • Budget - Childcare Nursery in Dubai tends to vary widely, depending on details such as the size, facility, faculty and reputation. The bottom line is it does not have to cost you a fortune to get your kids into the best preschool. Therefore, get all the details when you are looking for preschools,  the more detailed you get before you start looking, the more likely you are to choose a place you can comfortably afford.
  • Recommendations - No one knows better about preschools than the parents and their friends and family. Keep an eye out for great experiences and glowing recommendations as these are much more insightful and more valuable than reading online reviews or testimonials.
  • Faculty - The school needs to have a stellar faculty, the facilities and the location does not add up to anything if this is not met. Preschools become what they are because of their teachers. The gentle, loving and nurturing faculty act as mentors, surrogate parents, instructors and guides for the children. Look for teachers that have a genuine interest in your child and loves your child.  When it comes to preschool teaching, there is no substitute for warmth, talent and energy.
  • The intangibles - Have you ever toured a school in Dubai and loved every inch of it for what it says on paper but come away feeling less enthusiastic and disappointed. Well the final decision of entrusting your children to someone’s care must come down to your comfort level.

Parental involvement in a Child's Education

A parent's involvement and engagement in early childhood education is important , says a popular Childcare Nursery in Dubai.
Research shows that when children have parents involved in their education, the results are very positive, especially in the long run. Nurseries in Dubai have put forward the following  benefits of preschool children having involved and engaged parents,
  • Higher level of attendance
  • High grades and better test scores
  • Demonstrate good social skills
  • Good behavior and polite
  • Presents themselves well and are neat and tidy in their work
  • Adapt well to the school environment
  • Shows a lot of interest and involvement in the class work
  • Keen to take on tasks
  • Happy and enjoys work
  • Willingness to help other children
However, not all parents get involved in their children's education as actively as they should. Therefore, teachers at the Dubai Nursery encourage parents to be involved and engaged  through the following,
  • Educate parents that they need to be involved in their children’s learning so they can perform better
  • Create programs that will help families support and guide their children’s learning
  • Introduce techniques and methods that involve parent engagement
  • Build a trusting and respectful relationship between the parent and school
  • Establish ways for teachers and parents to be in constant communication
  • Encourage parents to observe the classroom in session and ask a parent to volunteer in activities such as reading a story or lunch helper.
  • Involve parents in parent-teacher organizations, fund-raising committees and community networking organizations.
Parent involvement in a child's preschool years should not only be limited to picking them up and dropping them off at school. A parent should be encouraged to play an active role in their children's education as it can benefit the child to do well in later years.

Motor skills Development You Can Expect from Pre-Schoolers

When little children first start to walk and move around, they will need a lot of guidance and you will see that they are unable to handle equipment’s firmly without dropping or losing control over them. The difference between these children and adults are the development of motor skills. We as adults are able to understand the difference between carrying a small object and a large object, walk and move without tripping and carry out activities like tying a shoe lace or even drive a car. Can you image a young toddler doing these tasks?
So how do these little hands and legs learn to do these tasks in the years to come? What role do parents and nursery care givers at Dubai nursery and day care in Dubai have to play in helping them to develop their motor skills?
Childrens nursery in Dubai encourages children to be independent every day. It helps the children to feel more confident and keep attempting tasks like placing blocks on top of another perfectly, or placing items back in the rack. This will help towards the gradual improvement in fine motor skills. Childcare nursery in Dubai is careful not to rush children to complete tasks, patience is key in letting the children carry out tasks slowly till they master a specific skill. Even parents are encouraged to practice this at home and try to avoid rushing the children into completing tasks. This will also help to ensure that the children do not rush to complete tasks and run the risk of injuring themselves.
Parents and nurseries are encouraged to not to help the children in all tasks, and let them gradually start doing things on their own. Like putting away the toys after play, hanging the water bottle, removing the shoes, etc. When they are encouraged to carry out these tasks every day their tiny hands and feet will begin to develop. With time they will be able to draw and write and even dance, jump and run without falling. The activities in the nurseries will the children in developing these physical and mental skills towards fine and gross motor skills development.
It is found the young children develop gross motor skills faster than the fine motor skills. This is why they are able to walk within the second ear but not able to write till around the third or fourth year in their life.
The important role you play as an adult in their life is to carefully monitor their activities and when they begin to show interest in a specific task encourage them to try it out. Be patient around them and let them make mistakes. With practice they will be able to grasp new tasks faster.

Nursery School Dubai

Most children are outgoing, make friends easily and are accepting of new ideas and ventures. These young personalities are enthusiastic in play and make friends easily. But for every outgoing nursery child, there is the shy one who prefers to sit outside the circle and is happy with little or no attention at all.

The outgoing children, who attend nurseries make friends fast, are leaders of the pack. But what about the child in the corner who seems uninterested in taking part? Well if you are a parent of that child and are concerned about her being left behind, your worries are only half justified.

Children who prefer to play on their own are not loners but are considered shy. These children will keep to themselves until they are approached or invited by a group of other kids. They will struggle to sharpen their social skills but it is important not to push her out of her comfort zone, she will rather prefer to be guided through it with patience and understanding.

As parents we would love to have our children accepted and active playing with kids their own age at preschool. It is important to work with her teacher to help her get comfortable in a new environment at school, without causing her anxious in the process.

Each classroom will have all kinds personalities and even the shy kid is part of the diversity one would find in a large group of preschoolers. Teachers and parents should allow these children time to want to fit in when they feel comfortable. Generally, shy or quiet children are happy to observe rather than take part and we need both kinds to make a classroom interesting.

As a parent of a shy child, a new school will be worrying; anxiety and nervousness is experienced, by parent and child. Its best to start the admission process early when enrolling your toddler in her new Dubai Nursery. If your son or daughter is shy and about to enter preschool , visit the school with them as often as possible. Let her be acquainted with the staff and her peers early on. This can happen during the admission process, make the appointments during interval, or lunch break when the kids are out playing. Children are naturally inquisitive of new people and will approach your daughter with the intention of making friends. She might pull back at this time, but the best things takes time.  As she doesn’t quite yet belong in the school, she will therefore have no corner to run to except you. She will make small talk before approaching you for comfort. On the next visit she is likely to be more familiar and will therefore attempt to make more friends. Eventually, after a few visits she will comfortable and happy to settle in to her new environment well before her first day.

Additionally, should she need a little more time, make arrangements to stay a while with her on the first day. It’ll give her the reassurance she needs, while other kids approach her and she gets to know her teacher.

Maintain strong communications with her teacher and talk to her about the friends she made. If your child says, she didn’t make any friends or was too shy, gently coach her on her approach for the next day at nursery school. Eventually she will be returning back home with tons of stories about her peers and teachers.

Kids Island and Cocoon Nurseries in Dubai is a preschool that ensures all children are accepted into the family and are able to still be themselves. Our dedicated teachers work with each child individually to ensure they feel right at home in their preschool Dubai; Kids Island Nursery.

Preschool in Dubai

Children should love their time at Dubai nurseries. It is a sure way sign of knowing if the preschool in Dubai follows high standards in early child development. At Kid’s Island Nursery, we ensure that all children have plenty of structured games and activities creating excitement as they learn.

While at our Dubai nursery, children have plenty of activities to keep busy. Surrounded by other children their age they show enthusiasm in social play and developmental tasks. However, once they leave for home each day, they will look for the same level of activities especially if they are an only child. Many parents find it difficult to relate to young children who are always trying to imitate a parent. They will be more obedient when allowed to participate. Young children at the age of two, spend time exploring and wanting independence. Getting your child to sit quietly as you work is not easy.

Many parents pull their out, when children persistently want to take part in your day. Involving your child in what you are busy with, is in fact good for a child’s development, making them disciplined. Many children have short attention spans. They are trying to catch up with the world they live in, and therefore attempt everything around them. Children constantly ask questions; and this is a good sign that your child is developing correctly.

You can actually involve your child in the things you do around the house every day. When they feel as though they have had enough or something else interests them they will leave you to it.

Cooking – it is no surprise that, young girls and even boys are eager to help in the kitchen. However, the kitchen is a dangerous place for small children and parents worry. This is understandably justified. It is better if you section off an area in the kitchen itself and let them do little things for you. They feel important and this is the key to keeping them occupied and safe.

Reading – children aged three are full of questions and want to know everything their parents are doing. Most parents hand out a children’s book to their toddler while they read. However, they will lose interest almost immediately and are back in a flash wanting to know what you are reading. The way to encounter this is to in fact, play it their way. Keeping your child on your lap while you read, and explaining a few child friendly topics will get their interest at first, and when they feel they have had enough will move on to other interests on their own.

Cleaning up – parents, who are alone with a toddler during the day, struggle to tidy up with them running around. All that your young child wants is do as you do. The trick is to invite them in to the activity itself designating easy tasks. When they feel as they have the choice instead of commanded they accept it more willingly. You can say things like “Daddy will be home soon, would you like to help me clean up?” And when they child accept the offer ask them if they would like to start by putting back toys.  It is much easier to get children involved in what you are doing, than to get them to play by themselves.

Nurseries and Preschools Dubai

Nurseries and preschools, although may not seem important, is able to give your child the right foundational environment before they attend kindergarten and elementary school. Kids Island Nursery is founded on the idea that children require stimulation and activity in order to grow and develop, preparing them academically and socially for school itself.

What is the difference between a normal school and a nursery school?

Nursery is in fact a structured methodology that allows children the freedom to learn and develop at their own pace. Nursery focuses less on academic curriculums and more on practical structured play. Kindergarten will focus on theoretical learning and putting pen to paper. This will entail alphabets, numbers, colours, shapes, and basic life sciences. The main difference between a kindergarten and nursery school, is that children do not face exams or tests in nursery level, while kindergarten systems do carry some kind of grading system.

Why should I rush my child in to learning when she is still so young?

Children who attend a nursery school in Dubai are more confident in their learning objectives than those who don’t when they begin kindergarten. They are more aware of the expectations and are much more familiar with the academic theory of kindergarten. Nursery schools do not follow a curriculum, but expose your child’s mind to the existence of letters and numbers, while introducing life sciences and concepts in a relaxed and casual manner. A nursery’s main focus is to train, your child to be independent, and social, while helping them progress mentally, physically and emotionally.

I am worried I am forcing my child to grow up too fast?

This is a concern that is quite justified and is probably fuelled by advice from family and friends. A good Dubai preschool that follows the Early Years Foundation Stage will allow your child plenty of time to play and have fun, while learning. A good foundation is to ensure that your son or daughter does not feel obligated with expectation, but appreciated for their enthusiasm. A good nursery school will combine academic theory with plenty of fun activities that your child will enjoy.

What do I look for in a good Dubai preschool?

As new parents, you may feel overwhelmed with information and advice from family and friends when looking for a preschool for your child. School shopping is a hard decision and with all the different requirements, you are forced to think about, it is difficult to decide on one school. Our best advice for choosing a preschool for your son to attend would be to let your child have the final say. If your child feels comfortable and safe in a school he visits, you will know that you have found the right school. It is important that your child is happy to attend the pre-school, where he feels the teachers are friendly and open, meets children that could potentially become his friends, and an environment he is eager to discover.

Kids Island Nursery focuses on meeting your concerns for your child, as well as your child’s expectations. Feel free to visit us along with your child and see for yourself if we meet yours and your child’s needs.

Nurseries in Dubai

Children are naturally inclined to play. Play is natural process for children who are growing and developing. From the moment your child takes his or her first breath, muscles are exercised and strengthened. Sitting upright, is in fact a task, and this means he or she has been working on strengthening back muscles to allow them to sit on their own without support. What we may take for granted today, was in fact a challenging milestone which we accomplished through curiosity and play.

Many pre-schools in Dubai adapt play into the teaching methods to ensure your child’s development requirements are met. Physical, mental, intellectual, and emotional developments are addressed by different types of games and activity tools. Simple activities like putting a puzzle together helps the tiny muscles in the fingers and the eye muscles to strengthen, while running and jumping around helps develop the large muscles in the legs and hands.

Nurseries in Dubai are required to balance teaching methods to include all the developmental needs of children of a specific age group. A typical day at pre-school in Dubai would include storytelling and show and tell, group play, outdoor play, imaginative play, resting time, time to eat, board games and puzzles. Each of these different activities helps your child build one or two different skills. Show-and-tell, would help your child improve his or her language skills while developing their confidence and use of hands and facial expressions. Outdoor play helps your child strengthen his or her motor skills, while improving social skills and confidence to play in groups.

Physical play also helps a child with thinking and problem solving skills. When a child begins to walk, he or she will usually aim for something high up or out of reach. This encourages them to think of a smart plan or way to obtain the object of interest. Children gradually learn to walk after a weeks of reaching and grabbing on to furniture. Physical activity will increase throughout the years as they get older, children will attempt play that is more strenuous and sports.

“Quiet time” like drawing and painting is considered a necessary activity to help in the development of the muscles in fingers. Children start unable to hold a pencil or pen, however as they reach the age of three or four, they begin holding a crayon or pencil correctly. With lots of practice, they will become stable writers and painters by the age of ten and eleven.

The teachers at Kids Island Nursery in Dubai ensure our children are constantly learning through play and games to keep them interested in the subject matter while growing and strengthening their muscles and bones. Although, children love to play and be active for most parts of the day, it is important to ensure they receive the right nutrition to support them in their playful development.

Nursery in Dubai

Kids Island Nursery, in Dubai works on the fundamental milestones established by Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). EYFS guides us with tools and techniques to follow for each age group  ensuring all children, regardless of age, ethnicity, or social background have equal opportunity to excel as individuals.

Children are born ready to learn and learn fast. However, they achieve different milestones at different times, based on their interest and environment during a set period. When children attend a nursery school in Dubai, they are able to interact with other children from different backgrounds. Attending a Nursery in Dubai is one of the best experiences that a child as young as two can enjoy. The mix of races and ethnicities, amazing resources of teachers from all over the world, and state of the art equipment will help your three-year old progress greatly compared to attending school anywhere else in the world.

There are standard goals that children will reach during their years at nursery. These years are called, “The Magical Years”, as they have passed the terrible twos and are now finally accepting approved behavior, understanding commands, being independent and their minds begin creative and imaginative thinking. This period with be both amusing and enlightening to parents as well.

A 3-to-4-year old is prepared to grow and develop in many aspects throughout the year and keeping track of their achievements can be a difficult task. Each child will develop varying skills and talents however, there are certain general advancements that all children are likely to make at pre-school level.

Speech and Language Milestones

Turning three for any child is a time where parents will finally be able to communicate with their children much more than they were able to before. At the end of the 4th year, he or she should be able to say his of her name and age when asked, and will answer questions clearly as they would have picked up around 250 – 500 words. They are able to tell stories and update you on their day at school.

Cognitive Development Milestones

If you thought the terrible two were bad, because they never stopped moving around, the three’s is an age, where parents would hear the word “Why?” at least a hundred times a day. 3-to-4-year-olds will question everything around them. As annoying as it might be, this is normal in the developmental progress as they try to catch up with information. This is when cognitive development takes precedence over everything else as they begin to understand and form opinions on varying subject matters. During this time they will name colours, and understand concepts like same and different, morning, noon and night, and remember stories their teacher told them at nursery. They will use building blocks to construct tall structures and solve age appropriate puzzles.

Emotional and Social development Milestones

A child aged between three and four will thrive in social situations. They will make friends easily and find things to say and do with their newfound friends almost immediately. They will share their toys and accept the concept of waiting their turn during play. Their acting skills will also develop well as they imitate parents and teachers, and show affection to other children and babies. They will understand the concept of possession and will know what belongs to them and their friends. They will make faces to show their emotions; like for instance when you call out bedtime to your 3 year old, they will make a sad face to show their disapproval

Practical Learning More Advantages than Theoretical Teaching

In a city as multicultural as Dubai, where hundreds of different ethnicities come together to live, work and play, the children of Dubai are global citizens. Originating from different backgrounds, speaking many different languages, practical education tops any other educational theory. Engaging young children in play allows us at Kids Island Nursery to teach many different subjects, which are relevant and required for today’s children.

Children are naturally inclined to imitate things they see and hear. In a recent study, two groups of children were taught the alphabets using different techniques. The first group was to learn by writing and the other was to learn by songs and dance, role-play and art. The children in the first group were bored, inattentive, rebellious, and uninterested in the subject matter. They were slow to grasp, and barely showed any progress in the two-day experiment. The children in the practical group were attentive and eager to learn and imitate. The practical group of children showed higher results in the tests conducted at the end of the experiment. This proves that children learn better, when they are engaged in the learning process. This is also true of us adults; however, we are able to train our minds to concentrate through determination.

At Kids Island Nursery, we understand that the key to developing young minds is to engage them in practical learning that will keep them active and attentive. Running a nursery in Dubai, means that we have children that speak different languages and understand things differently. However all kids behave the same way in playful activities. We use this to our advantage creating a universal platform for all children, accommodating their uniqueness. At Kids Island Nursery, our teachers are qualified in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) education system, developed in the UK. The EYFS uses experimentation and practical lessons to teach alphabets, colours, and numbers, additionally social and communication skills, general knowledge, science, emotional and mental growth and so much more. We cover many topics at our pre-school in Dubai, which give our children the added advantage when moving to higher grades.

The children at Kids Island Nursery are happy and enthusiastic in their educational development. We integrate a variety of topics, like food, the weather, geography, science and of course the foundation subjects: numbers, colours, and alphabets’. We teach these topics by activities like role-play, show and tell, fun experiments, junior chef and much more.

Children at Kid’s Island Nursery are confident with strong personalities as we strive to instil social interaction and intellectual skills throughout their time with us. We strongly follow our principles to guide all our students equally on all fronts while understand that each of them are different.

Choosing a Nursery in Dubai

Whether you have recently travelled to Dubai or have been living here for long, one of the biggest decisions that young parents are faced with is choosing the right pre-school in Dubai for your young toddler.

We have seen how young children; toddlers and babies alike, cling to their mothers on the first day caused by separation anxiety. This is normal and expected of children as young as they are, when they enter nursery, due to the unfamiliarity of a new environment and people. Whether you have made the move to Dubai recently or have always lived here, looking for nurseries in Dubai to ensure your child safety, happiness and learning is at the best facility is important to any parent before they leave their precious little ones for the day.

There are certain factors you need to consider before deciding on the Best Pre-school in Dubai for you and your child. The curriculum that the school follows is vital and most important as it is the foundation that they will obtain and the system followed should help your child in their future higher education with other schools and syllabuses.

It is important that the school you pick, gives your toddler a broad spectrum of education and learning activities that helps in personal and academic growth. All aspects of your toddlers developmental criteria, should be integrated in the curriculum like, emotional, social, physical, and mental, while encouraging enthusiasm for learning and exploring.

Secondly, having a school follow a strict disciplinary boundary is important in cultivating morals and manners that will come in handy when moving to higher education and social environments. However, it is of utmost importance that any school when considered does not over step the parent’s authority nor should they scare your child into good behavior as children only misbehave when their required needs are not met.

The first five years of any child are most important and it is during this time that they discover their niche and their special talents and capabilities. It is therefore important to ensure that the nursery you pick, inculcates enthusiasm for self-discovery and progress.

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a nursery for your child, is ensuring that you are involved and the school you pick, encourages your feedback and works with you as a team to improve your child’s progress made overall.

Last but not least, any nursery should encourage individuality, while maintaining a sound academic syllabus that is certified by international bodies, designed to ensure that no child is left behind in his work.

Early childhood educators play an essential role in your little ones life so it is important that you as a parent are also thorough on certain skills and qualities that are required for them to be successful in the educating very young children whilst enjoying themselves thoroughly in the process.

The most important characteristic that marks all brilliant early childhood educators is; flexibility. When handling very young children it is important that the educator be sensitive to the children’s mood and have the ability to effectively change their lesson plan when required in order to meet the needs of the children. This by no means refers to endorsing bad behavior but has more to do with leniency towards your little one because age appropriate learning tactics are all about meeting your child’s specific needs. Flexibility is also a crucial characteristic that must be employed when it comes to the actual teaching process. Bending lessons in order to generate a more entertaining learning experience is always a ?must have’ characteristic for any nursery teacher in Dubai.

A good nursery teacher in Dubai must be a gentle yet firm disciplinarian. Any good teacher ensures discipline in his or her classroom. This is done using only positive techniques that are enriched with a gentle and loving approach by utilizing self-control at any given period of time no matter how detrimental the situation might be. Being calm under stormy weather s essential because being upset invokes the other children to become upset and this should never happen in a nursery under any circumstances, especially in the hands of a qualified professional. All rules are fairly and consistently implemented in order to enhance positive reinforcement so that your child will thrive not only in education but also in all other facilitated extracurricular activities as well.

When educating very young children it is important that the nursery teacher assist your little one in developing a positive self image. This is inculcated through group activities where your child will be able to exert early leadership qualities and through positive encouragement in all endeavors that your child is bound to partake in within a nursery environment. We at the Kid’s Island Nursery Dubai nourish our establishment solely through the development of your child’s skills so that they feel good about themselves and have a positive image about learning and even school.
